Overcoming Fear & Finding Freedom

When I was little, I remember having a bunch of my mom's friends hanging out in our living room, while a very sophisticated lady wearing red lipstick talked to them about Mary Kay and let them try the eye shadows, the blush, the lipstick! I was so excited, because they included me. It made my little 9 year old self feel extremely grown up. And of course I was excited to be wearing make up!!

My mom would host other fun parties every now and then, and I was always so excited to help prep for them.

When I was 18, my mom was introduced to a skin care company called BeautiControl. But this time it wasn't through a party, just a rep sharing some products for her to try over the week. They had a microderm abrasion kit that my mom fell in love with and she instantly opted to become a rep in order to have access to the products that she absolutely loved! My mom never intended to sell these products, she just knew she would be ordering them enough, that becoming a rep made sense in order to get a discount.

But I was much more intrigued! I saw my mom rave about how her skin was improving from the microderm abrasion products, how she loved the foaming face wash and moisturizers. I started using the products as well and felt pulled to become a rep myself. My mom hosted my very first at home Spa Party and invited all of her friends.

I was insanely nervous and made sure I studied up about the products so I could offer a seamless presentation.

I set out hand scrubs, and foot tubs. I created a "spa like" atmosphere in my mom's front room. It was a pretty fun format.

Everything went mostly to plan and some of her friends were excited to try a product or two.

But as they were placing their orders, I was overcome with this fear that they didn't actually want what they were buying and were just being nice to me.

I couldn't shake my feeling of embarrassment, but I pushed on. My aunt asked her friend to host a party at her house.

Again, everything went mostly to plan. But I was experiencing insane stage fright. That night, I couldn't imagine doing another party.

But I liked the products, so I tried to share them on my Facebook page, but no one seemed interested.

Again, embarrassment would creep up and I just felt silly for trying to sell something that no one seemed to want.

The problem was, the friends who had tried the products told me they really liked them and would reach out to me when they needed to place a reorder.

But I was too wrapped up in my own fears that I didn't push through to continue to serve my new product fans..

I stopped selling but continued using the products.

In fact, I used BeautiControl's skincare for 10 years!

At 28, I decided I would try sharing the products again. I had learned a lot and obviously loved the products, because I was still using them!

I hosted my own party and made sure everything looked amazing.

I invited a few of my girlfriends and treated them to dinner and cocktails.

I shared the products that I used, and let them test a few for themselves.

They all seemed to enjoy themselves.

I sold one lip scrub.

I was mortified!

Needless to say, I couldn't break free from my fear, and stopped selling BeautiControl again.

I tell you this story, not to discourage you, the exact opposite actually.

I was looking at the process all wrong.

I thought that every single person I knew had to be a raving fan of what I was doing.

I also found that I didn't like presenting at parties. I was just a ball of nerves.

When BeautiControl closed it doors, after 35 years of business, I went searching for a new skin care line.

I tried a few drugstore brands and felt just okay about them.

When I found AVON, I was surprised to see the products the offered and the insanely affordable prices.

I read through their ingredients and product reviews, and started to get really excited!

I wanted to buy everything.

And it wasn't just skincare and makeup!

They had shoes, and clothes, and decor... And the prices were so affordable.

And don't even get me started about my excitement when I discovered the AVON Outlet Store!!

I couldn't stop thinking about AVON and about the work at home opportunity they offered.

I spent two weeks going back and forth about becoming an AVON Rep.

I decided to seek out and talk to several AVON Rep's about their experience.

After that, I knew that AVON was what I was looking for and was the kind of company I wanted to be a part of.

Getting my skincare for a discount was just the icing on top!

So here is what I discovered... Not all Direct Sales models are created equal.

You have to do your research and you have to make sure that it is a company that connects with you.

I didn't like doing at home parties.

But I love sharing AVON catalogs!!

I love using AVON products and creating Review videos on my Youtube Channel.

And I love sharing AVON deals... Because they are insanely good deals!

I never feel the weird embarrassment that haunted me when I sold BeautiControl at home parties.

I only feel enthusiasm and light heartedness about sharing AVON, because they have so much to choose from and have new products and styles always popping up. If it's not something someone needs right now, it will be there for them down the road.

I love running my AVON business from home!

I feel the freedom of working my own hours and don't feel bottlenecked in to a business model that is uncomfortable.

I get to decide how I run my business.

But most importantly, I am a raving fan of AVON.

My enthusiasm for what they offer is enough for me.

If you would like to start your own AVON business, I would love to mentor and guide you through the process.
